Soya SHINKAI

Physical biology and bioinformatics of the dynamic 3D genome organization

Soya SHINKAI, Ph.D.

Senior Scientist
RIKEN
Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research (BDR)
Laboratory for Developmental Dynamics

In 2012, Soya received his Ph.D. in Statistical Physics under the supervision of Prof. Yoji Aizawa at Waseda University, studying non-stationary fluctuations in infinite ergodic systems and slow dynamics in Hamiltonian systems. He then joined the project "Spying minority in biological phenomena" as a new career in Biophysics to bridge theory and experiment, collaborating with Dr. Yuichi Togashi. Soya focused on how we can extract physical insights from single diffusion trajectories of molecules in living cells. In 2013, he moved to Hiroshima University to model chromatin dynamics and structure in living cells at Research Center for the Mathematics on Chromatin Live Dynamics (RcMcD). Since then, he has been very excited to investigate genome organization in living cells. In 2017, he joined The Onami Laboratory at the RIKEN Kobe campus. He enjoys Shigin, listening to alternative punk and rock music at a live house, sometimes crowd-surfing and moshing, and playing the bass guitar.
